E.B. school taxes decrease slightly

During the East Bernstadt Independent School meeting on August 14, the board voted to reduce the real estate and personal property taxes.

The real estate tax rate was reduced to 27.2 cents from 28.8 cents per $100 of accessed value. The personal property tax was reduced to 36.9 from 38.1. The motor vehicle tax stayed the same at 27.4 cents.

Other action taken by the board included:

• Approved the second reading of the revised board policies. “Those revisions reflect the new laws that the General Assembly enacted during their last session,” Superintendent Homer Radford said.

• Approved revised board procedures.

• Approved revisions to the special education procedure.

• Waived to revise the facilities plan. “We had revised it and it was approved by the state board in February,” Radford said. “The board decided not to revise that plan. We revised it early because as soon as funding is available, we would like to do some building.”

• Approved American Fidelity Insurance Company as the cafeteria plan administrator.

• Approved using Flav-O-Rich as the provider of the dairy products.

• Approved the bell schedule for 2008-2009. Classes are scheduled to start at 7:55 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday. On Friday, school will begin at the same time but will end at 1 p.m. Employees stay until 3 p.m.

• If the Laurel River Baptist Association holds a campus journey prayer time 2008-2009 this year, the board approved the use of the campus.

The next meeting is scheduled for September 11.
