Body found on Happy Hollow Road

Devin Overbey discovered lying beside roadway; investigation under way

Kentucky State Police were called to Happy Hollow Road Sunday after the Laurel County 911 Center received a report of a body lying beside the roadway.

Kentucky State Police Detective Millard Root said Devin Overbey, 26, of Corbin, was pronounced dead at the scene in the Lily community about 10 a.m.

Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling said the body has been sent to Frankfort for an autopsy. He could not comment on any specific wounds on the body. However, he estimated Overbey had been dead about seven hours before the body was found.

“There was a lot of trauma,” Bowling said.

The Laurel County Major Crimes Task Force was activated and began an investigation. Root is leading the group consisting of Kentucky State Police, Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies and London Police.

“The Laurel County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating it to see about any suspects or weapons,” said Steve Smallwood with the Kentucky State Police.

Police said Overbey was last seen alive at his uncle’s house in Keavy.
