Woodlee sex abuse trial moved to February

33-year-old man allegedly had ‘sexual contact’ with infant

Gregory Lee Woodlee, who is accused of having sexual contact with a child under 1 year old, will have to wait until February for his day in court after the trial was continued.

Woodlee, 33, was scheduled to go to trial Wednesday in Laurel Circuit Court on two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of second-degree persistent felony offender.

However, Assistant Common-wealth’s Attorney Terry Beckner, who is prosecuting the case, said Judge Roderick Messer continued the case until Feb. 6 because one of the witnesses could not be in court.

“Detective Stacey Anderkin (who investigated the case) is ill,” Beckner said.

Woodlee was indicted by a Laurel County Grand Jury in June. According to the indictment, on two different occasions in January and February, Woodlee reportedly subjected a child to unspecified sexual contact. At the time, the child was reportedly less than 1 year old.

An indictment warrant was issued. In July, the warrant was served by a Knox County Sheriff’s deputy when Woodlee was arrested and brought to the Knox County Jail. While the Knox County Jail is not open, county officials said it is used as a holding facility until prisoners can be transferred to a permanent facility.

Woodlee was transferred to the Whitley County Detention Center, where he is being held.
