A Corbin man who ran from police Saturday after allegedly stealing a truck-load of bushes and shrubs from Lowe’s Home Improvement in Corbin, was taken into custody after police found him at his home later that evening.
Kentucky State Police Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Mike Hamblin, said he was on patrol on U.S. 25E about 3:30 a.m. when he saw a Ford F150 pickup truck pull out of Lowes with no headlights showing.
“When I passed the vehicle, I noticed the bed of the pickup contained numerous plants and shrubs,” Hamblin said.
Hamblin turned around and began pursuit of the truck, which he noted was towing a utility trailer that had no lights. Hamblin followed the truck as it turned onto Cherry Avenue and activated his lights and sirens.
The chase continued onto Felts School Road, to the end of the street and through a yard.
“When (Parker) entered the yard, the trailer came loose, striking a building and causing damage to both the building and trailer,” Hamblin said.
Parker escaped into the woods.
About 10:20 p.m., Hamblin found Parker at his home on Felts School Road about 10:20 a.m. and took him into custody.
After advising Parker of his Miranda Rights, Hamblin said Parker admitted to taking the items.
Parker was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf Monday because the charges are felonies. The judge amended his bond to $2,500 cash.
