LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — A two-vehicle accident that resulted in the death of a Laurel woman now has a Mt. Vernon woman behind bars, charged with murder and assault.

Cora Wilson, 35, of Sand Springs Road, was arrested Sunday at her parents’ home in eastern Laurel County. She is charged with murder, three counts of first-degree assault, and driving under the influence and is held in the Laurel County Detention Center under a $500,000 cash bond.

Wilson was the driver of a Pontiac Grand Prix that crossed the centerline into the westbound lane of Ky. 80 near the Ky. 1803 intersection, nine miles east of London, on November 27. She struck a 2006 Honda CR-V, driven by 59-year-old Stanley Woods of London, head-on. Woods’ wife, Darlene Woods, 58, was a passenger in the vehicle and died 10 days later from injuries sustained in the accident.

Wilson, her two passengers, and Stanley Woods all suffered serious injuries from the crash that pinned all five victims in their vehicle, requiring emergency workers to cut them from the mangled metal. All victims were then flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington for treatment.

The investigation into the accident revealed Wilson had numerous narcotic substances in her blood stream at the time of the accident, resulting in the charges being filed against her.

She was arrested just before 6 p.m. Sunday by Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Parrott, Deputy Robbie Grimes and Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter. The ongoing investigation into the crash has been conducted by Deputy Parrott and Lt. Chuck Johnson.

Wilson is set for a preliminary hearing in Laurel District Court on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 11 a.m.
