Multiple drivers jailed for DUI

Lily man involved in hit and run on Ky. 552

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies made several separate DUI arrests this weekend as part of their “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

Deputy Kevin Berry was dispatched to a hit and run traffic accident on U.S. 25, six miles south of London early Friday afternoon.

When Deputy Berry arrived on scene he learned a silver Ford pickup had fled the scene of the crash and was later found on Ky. 552 East, nearly half a mile away.

Following an extensive investigation which involved collecting evidence, interviewing involved people and reviewing a surveillance video from a tobacco store in the area, the driver of the silver Ford pickup was identified and arrested on Dogwood Lane in Lily, more than a mile away from where the vehicle was found.

Investigation revealed the suspect had been drinking a large quantity of beer all day and then drove his father to London to run some errands.  While heading to a tobacco store on U.S. 25, the driver of the Ford allegedly hit a Nissan Altima and then a guardrail, fleeing at a high rate of speed until the truck broke down and he abandoned the vehicle.

The driver of the Altima went to the emergency room for treatment of possible injuries.

Randy E. Stewart, 47, of Dogwood Lane, Lily, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence; leaving the scene of an accident; no operator’s license and numerous other traffic violations.

Stewart was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter and Deputy Robbie Grimes arrested two individuals on McFadden Cemetery Road, approximately 13 miles south of London, on Friday night at 9:36 p.m.

The London-Laurel 9-1-1 Communication Center had received several calls about a blue Chevy Silverado driving through people’s yards on McFadden Cemetery Road, causing property damage.
