Rescue organization receives donation from Cornerstone students

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Pets with second chances gave the children of Cornerstone Christian School a visit on Tuesday, March 19.  Homeward Bound Canine Rescue and Rehabilitation of London brought the animals to not only thank students for a recent $300 donation to the Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter, but also to teach the students about pet ownership.

Educational Director Christina McCreary said students at Cornerstone have maturity beyond their years for demonstrating their concern for the pet overpopulation in southeastern Kentucky.  Animals that find themselves in Homeward Bound’s care have either been abused, neglected or injured.  The group provides emergency care until the animals have been rehabilitated and placed in a safe home.

One of the most famous canine rescue successes, Lincoln, visited the children of Cornerstone, jumping and wagging his tail with excitement.  Lincoln has miraculously recovered from a gunshot wound to the head. He has no permanent injury to his brain.

“Before surgery, he was even wagging his tail,” McCreary said.  “He’s Homeward Bound’s mascot.”

Lincoln was joined by one-legged Dana, who was rescued from being hit by a car, and  Valentine, a Jack Russell Terrier mix.
