Motorcyclist killed in crash

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — A man was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a vehicle on Ky. 30 Sunday evening.

The two-vehicle collision occurred at two miles east of London just before 6 p.m. Sunday when 38-year-old Clinton S. Lewis, of Slate Lick Road in London, attempted to pass a 1999 Mercury Cougar on his 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The two vehicles, both of which were traveling eastbound, crashed when the Cougar, driven by 29-year-old Marcus Stigall of North Mill Street, attempted to make a left turn off of Ky. 30 into a business’s parking lot. According to a press release from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, Lewis tried to pass the Cougar as the vehicle negotiated the turn, with Lewis’ motorcycle crashing into the driver’s side.

The impact caused Lewis to be ejected from the motorcycle onto the pavement, where he died from his injuries. Stigall was taken to Saint Joseph-London by Ambulance Inc. for minor injuries.

The press release states Lewis was attempting to pass the vehicle in a no-passing lane.

Assisting at the scene was Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Greg Turner, who is leading the investigation, Chief Deputy Eddy Sizemore, Deputy Shawn Boroviak, Deputy Steve Hoskins, Kentucky State Police Trooper Jack Riley, Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling, EMTs with Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, and members of the East Bernstadt Volunteer Fire Department.
