LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
The details of why the wife of a disabled Iraq war veteran wanted her estranged husband dead remain in question although she is now implicated in a murder-for-hire plot.
Amber Hursey, 25, of 277 Hanes Baker Road in Corbin, was indicted by a Laurel grand jury on Friday on the charge of criminal solicitation to commit murder.
According to WLEX-TV’s website, Hursey and her husband James, an Iraqi war veteran, were involved in what James described as “a messy divorce.” Amber allegedly contacted a man and offered to give him the money from an insurance policy on her husband if the man would kill him for her.
The man was acquainted with James Hursey and told him about the plot. The two arranged a meeting between Hursey and the proposed hitman, in which Hursey gave details of the plan that landed her in jail for conspiring to have her husband killed.
Hursey was arrested around 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 10 and remains in custody at the Laurel County Detention Center.
