LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
A school resource officer with the London Police Department continues to recover after a motorcycle accident on Tuesday evening.
Ed Herd, a 13-year veteran with the city police department, was released from the University of Kentucky Medical Center early Wednesday morning and is recuperating at home, according to London Police Capt. Derek House.
Herd was off duty when the accident occurred. He was traveling west on West Fifth Street near The Bennett Center, just past Falls Street, when he lost control of his 2006 Suzuki motorcycle in the curve and hit the embankment on the right side of the roadway. House said the impact caused Herd’s chin to hit the windshield of the motorcycle, causing extensive injuries.
“He had multiple injuries to his body but most severe were to his face,” House said. “He had multiple lacerations to his face.”
Herd was taken by ambulance to Saint Joseph-London, then transported to the Lexington hospital for his injuries. House said Herd had multiple stitches due to the injuries to his face.
“We always hate when an accident occurs, especially when we’ve just come out of the “Click It or Ticket” campaign. We just ask that everyone pray for his (Herd) quick recovery.”
