Heavy fog causes Ky. 80 crash

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Heavy fog caused a handful of wrecks in London Friday morning due to low visibility.

According to Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy James Sizemore, two women were transported to Saint Joseph London with possible head and chest injuries following a two-car crash on Ky. 80 at 7:46 a.m.

Sandra Lemasters, 60, of London was traveling across Ky. 80 from Hawk Creek Road in her Toyota Camry when she pulled out in front of a Nissan Altima, driven by Bethany Wilson, 20, of Annville, Ky., who was heading westbound on Ky. 80.

According to investigating officers, extremely low visibility was the cause of the accident.

Both Lemasters and Wilson were transported to Saint Joseph London with non-life threatening injuries.

Assisting at the scene were Sgt. Josh Gaylor, Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, Bailiff Brandon Braughton, Swiss Colony Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.

A separate crash involving juveniles occurred later that morning, at 11:52 a.m., on Ky. 192, about two miles west of London.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, a Dodge Durango, driven by a 17-year-old male, came to an abrupt stop when a vehicle unexpectedly turned onto Country Court Circle.  A Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by a 17-year-old female from Keavy, then slammed into the Durango’s rear because she did not have time to stop.

The driver and three juvenile passengers in the Durango were reportedly uninjured.

The female was transported by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to Saint Joseph London with minor injuries to her right hand.
