LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — One woman was airlifted to a Lexington hospital and another died as the result of a head-on crash on Ky. 192 on Friday.

Bonnie Hancock, 67, died from fatal injuries sustained in the crash that occurred 10 miles west of London around 1 p.m. Lattie Neeley, 53, of London, was flown from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Information from the Laurel Sheriff’s Office states that Hancock was traveling west on Ky. 192 and crossed the centerline of the roadway for unknown reasons. Hancock’s Nissan Sentra struck an eastbound Dodge pickup truck driven by Neeley head-on, with both vehicles blocking the roadway. The highway was shut down while emergency workers and accident reconstructionists investigated the accident.

This is the 11th death from traffic crashes this year, with the first on Jan. 22. There were 11 fatalities in the county last year by Sept. 1, with the number of deadly crashes in the county increasing over the past two years. In 2011, there were a total of 11 fatalities for the entire year.

Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Richard Dalrymple is continuing the investigation into the accident. Assisting at the scene were Deputies Josh Scott, Kevin Berry, Shane Rice and Officer Luther Arnold, the Laurel County Coroner’s Office, PHI Helicopter, as well as members of the London-Laurel Rescue Squad and Bald Rock Volunteer Fire Department.
