LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
As spring has finally arrived, there’s a good chance that car lovers like Ron and Linda Root will be seen out in the driveway polishing up an old classic car and getting ready for the cruising season.
Beginning every April the Southeast Ky. Cruisers Car Club gets together to do what car lovers do, show off their cars and cruise the open road; this year will be no exception.
“It was a really harsh winter,” club president Ron Root said. “We’re excited that warm weather is finally here and those of us not lucky enough to be in Florida for the winter can finally get out of the house and enjoy the beauty of spring.”
The Southeast Ky. Cruisers Car Club is a Christian-based organization of men and women who love cars and love spending time with those who share that love.
Annually, they have a “Cruise-in” on the first Friday of every month from April to September. They meet at Wildcat Harley Davidson in London.
“There’s an 80 percent chance of severe weather Friday (today),” Root said. “So we’re going to postpone our April event by one day; it’s now Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. at Wildcat Harley, which is great because they’re also having an open house.”
They have three car trophy shows each year; two major cruises including a cruise to Red River Gorge, and many other events.
The charitable group of car lovers also hosts an annual fundraiser at the World Chicken Festival where they raffle a shotgun and a TV for local charities such as Shop with a Cop, the Backpack Club and Come-Unity Cooperative Care.
This year’s schedule of events include hotdog roasts, cookouts, a Father’s Day trip to Bowling Green, Ky., for the guys, several car shows and will conclude in October with a fall car show, trophy presentation and check presentation at Old Town Grill.
The Southeast Ky. Cruisers Car Club is always accepting new members. For more information, including a detailed schedule of events, visit their website at www.southeastkycruiserscarclub.com or call Ron Root at (606) 231-7321.
