LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
A residence on east Ky. 1376 netted Laurel County Sheriff’s officials with a large haul of illegal weed on Thursday afternoon.
After arriving at the residence of David F. Stewart Jr., a patch containing 28 marijuana plants was located behind the residence. A shotgun was also found on the premises, resulting in Stewart being charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in addition to being charged with cultivating marijuana, five plants or more, second offense. Stewart was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center following his arrest and held under a $2,500 cash bond. He was scheduled for a hearing on the possession of a firearm charge in Laurel District Court on Friday and another hearing on the cultivating in marijuana charge on Tuesday, July 3.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Detective Brad Mitchell conducted the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Chief Deputy Eddy Sizemore, Lieutenant Rodney Van Zant, Detective Jason Back and Deputy Gilbert Acciardo.
