LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Another victim of the March 2 tornado that hit the East Bernstadt community died at the University of Kentucky Medical Center on Friday, three weeks after the disaster.
Mary Ann Pruitt, 37, the daughter of Ethel Pruitt who died in the tornado, had been in critical condition with blunt force trauma since March 2. Mary Ann Pruitt was at her mother’s Bentley Road residence when the tornado struck. (It is not known whether the two lived together at the time.)
Mary Ann Pruitt was pronounced dead at the Lexington hospital by Dr. Andrew Bernard at 11:46 a.m. Friday.
Besides Ethel and Mary Ann Pruitt, the tornado also took the lives of Sherman Dewayne and Debbie Allen, and Wilburn and Virginia Pitman, all of East Bernstadt. All of the deceased lived in mobile homes.
Two other individuals who were critically injured during the March 2 tornado were taken to the Lexington hospital. Eric Allen, son of Sherman Dewayne and Debbie Allen, has since been released and his fiancée, Amy Harris, is still being hospitalized.
Bowling Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements for Mary Ann Pruitt and arrangements are incomplete at this time.
