Couple puts home back together

Rebuilds after March 2 tornado

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — A couple, whose single wide trailer was picked up by a tornado on March 2 and wrapped around three trees in their back yard, have gotten their life back together.

With the help of FEMA and a Small Business Administration loan, Mary and Arthur Parker at 248 Bentley Road have put in a double wide trailer, had a front and back porch put on, and have built a two-car garage with a lean to.

“I didn’t want a single wide trailer. I’m afraid of them,” Mary Parker said. “We couldn’t find our two-car garage after the tornado. We only found one garage door. We survived by getting into our pickup which was in the garage. I hope and pray another tornado doesn’t come through.”

Mary Parker said her old trailer had 28 rose bushes of different colors in front of it and she plans on putting some in front of her new double wide this fall, as well as some trees. She said her neighbors have fixed up their places, except for the property belonging to Ethel Pruitt and Mary Ann Pruitt who died in the tornado.

Parker wants to thank her family and friends who helped put her life back together. She also wants to thank Waste Connections and all their employees for getting her and her husband a motel room, for donating money, and for helping with the cleanup; Doug House, owner of Animal House Veterinarian Clinic, who boarded her yorkiepoo and treated it for ear mites; and Vince Eversole, who did all the construction work on the front and back porches and the garage.

She has lived on Bentley Road with her husband for 13 years.
