London man attacked while assisting stranded motorist

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — A good deed turned bad when a London man stopped to assist what he believed was a stranded motorist on Sunday night.

Instead, the Good Samaritan was attacked and robbed by two men who pulled up behind his vehicle as he went to assist the other motorist.

A press release from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office states Deputy Josh Scott went to the scene on Hammock Road, five miles south of London, around 7:30 p.m. where a 19-year-old man had been hit several times with a baseball bat.

The victim reported he came upon a white Cavalier with the hood up and blocking the road. Thinking the car had broken down, the victim pulled over near the ditchline to offer assistance. At almost the same time he exited his vehicle, another car pulled up behind his vehicle and two men got out and began attacking him with the baseball bat and a knife. Although he was struck several times with the bat and the assailants tried to cut him with the knife, they only succeeded in cutting the victim’s coat.

The two men then went through the victim’s vehicle, taking sunglasses and other small items and left the scene as the female driving the Cavalier jumped in her car, which started right up, and followed them.

Despite having some injuries to his neck, the victim refused medical attention.

His description of the assailants was limited, stating the female was in her mid-20’s, white, and drove a white Cavalier with no plates on it.
