Rodney Bishop garnered himself an additional 26 days of freedom after he allegedly walked out of St. Joseph-London while on a medical furlough from the Laurel County Detention Center. However, that may cost him an additional 1 to 5 years in prison because along with his outstanding warrants he has been charged with second-degree escape.
Bishop, 38, of London, was arrested Jan. 1 for manufacturing methamphetamine. According to information provided to local law enforcement asking them to be looking for Bishop, he was on a 48-hour medical furlough.
“He was ordered not to leave the hospital without a deputy jailer or deputy sheriff,” the notice stated. “He left the hospital and has not returned.”
On Feb. 4, Laurel County Sheriff’s Detective Brad Mitchell found Bishop on Tom Town Hollow Road in North Corbin and took him back into custody.
Bishop’s bond was initially set at $100,000. However, at his arraignment Friday in Laurel District Court, Judge John Chappell amended the bond to $50,000.
Bishop will return to court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing to determine if the case should be presented to a Laurel County Grand Jury.
