A Kentucky State Police arson investigator is looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a double-wide trailer Saturday on Falcon Ave. in Sublimity.
Laurel County Fire Chief Tommy Johnston said the cause of the fire, which gutted the home at 74 Falcon Ave., has not been determined.
Johnston declined to specify what led to the investigation. Pat Alford, an arson investigator assigned to Kentucky State Police Post seven in Richmond has been called to conduct the investigation.
About 6 p.m. Laurel County Firefighters were called out after neighbors saw the fire and called 9-1-1. No one was home at the time of the fire, which Johnston said had a big head start when firefighters arrived.
“It was fully engulfed,” Johnston said. “About 80 percent of it was burning.”
Because of the size of the fire and the 80 degree outside temperature, Johnston requested additional manpower and equipment from the Lily Fire Department.
Within about 20 minutes, Johnston said firefighters had the majority of the flames knocked down. Firefighters remained on the scene until almost midnight eliminating hotspots.
Johnston said firefighters were unable to salvage any personal effects from the trailer.
“It was a total loss,” Johnston said.
