Feelings of nostalgia and joy swirled through North Laurel High School’s gym Saturday as students celebrated prom night. The theme of the night was masquerade, with masks scattered on tables and students walking in to the occasion holding disguises to their eyes.
One of them was Rachel Beleu, wearing a black and cream gown anchored by roses that was perfectly suited to the occasion.
Beleu was thrilled to be there — as was her date, Ben Arrowood.
“I live in Ashland and I can’t get to see her very often,” he said. “It’s really nice to spend some time with her.”
Senior Anthony Jones was likewise happy to be with his girl, Charlotte Jones. But he was also keenly aware of the significance of the evening.
“It’s going to be nostalgic,” he said.
Senior Courtney Jackson agreed.
“It’s fun because it’s the last time being with your class,” she said. “But it’s also sad because it’s one of the last times you’re going to see them.”
Senior James Caldwell, who will be shipped out to boot camp for the U.S. Navy following graduation, was also thinking about his years spent at North Laurel Saturday night.
“I’m going to miss it,” he said. “I loved it all.”
But students were having a great time too, and all agreed the theme and decorations were top notch.
“They’re pretty cool,” Meredith Johnson said.
“It looks nothing like the gym,” date Caleb Mosley added.
