Alpha Tau honors county students
The Laurel County Chapter of the Alpha Tau teachers’ sorority recognized local students Tuesday for their success in the classroom — academically and for their attitudes toward their classmates.
The 42 students from 10 area schools were nominated for the award by their teachers. As each student’s name was called, Alpha Tau President Carla Clairborne read the teacher’s reason for nominating them. Each winner received a certificate, a carnation and a book mark.
Alpha Tau also presented college scholarships to Kelly Stewart, a senior at North Laurel High School, and Kara Marcum, a senior at South Laurel High School, who both plan to major in education.
The students heard from Judy Mays House, owner of Paper Dolls ladies clothing store in London. House told the students to follow their dreams as she had, going back to her days as a child when she would dress up paper dolls.
“One of the greatest things in life is to be able to do what fulfills you,” House said. “My hope for you is that your dreams come true.”
