Ellis Wells was killed Friday when he was ejected from his Toyota 4Runner after it ran off KY 312 in Keavy and overturned.
According to police, Wells, 81, of Keavy was traveling west near the Keavy Grocery about 4:30 p.m. when the vehicle slipped off the road, tore through the ditchline, struck a culvert and overturned in a yard. Kentucky State Police Trooper Les Moses said Wells was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.
Wells was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kentucky State Police Trooper First Class Don Trosper, public affairs officer at Post 11 in London, said neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be a factor in the crash.
Traffic on KY 312 was diverted for more than an hour as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
Moses is continuing the investigation and was assisted by the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, the Keavy Fire Department, the Laurel County Fire Department, the Laurel County Coroner's office, and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
