Man dies on I-75

Harlan resident slams F-250 pickup into semitrailer

A Harlan man was pronounced dead Tuesday at the scene of a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 75.

Mike Bowling, accident reconstructionist at Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London, said Jimmie C. Stacy of Harlan was killed when his Ford F-250 pickup truck slammed into the rear of a semitrailer near the 48 exit in northern Laurel County about noon.

“The tractor-trailer had stopped due to road construction and had his flashing lights on,” Bowling said. “The F-250 hit the back of the trailer, going underneath it up to the bottom of the windshield, collapsing the cab.”

The semi driver was uninjured in the incident Bowling said.

Bowling said southbound traffic was stopped for approximately two hours as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.

It was the second fatality this past week on I-75. On Nov. 19, a Michigan woman was killed near the 37 mile-marker when her minivan flipped over a guardrail. Mae Hinzman, 71, was ejected from the vehicle, officials said.
