LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Horrific damage to an Infiniti that crashed into a utility pole amazingly resulted in only minor injuries for a Laurel teen.
The 16-year-old driver, whose name is being withheld due to age, was traveling east on Ky. 192 (West Laurel Road), five miles west of London, when he rounded a curve and slid on the rain-drenched highway.
The Infiniti veered off the roadway, striking a utility pole and caving in the driver’s side. The airbags in the vehicle deployed, with the utility pole situated in the driver’s seat.
Emergency personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene, but volunteers from the Laurel County Volunteer Fire Department quickly returned to the fire station when their services were not required.
The accident occurred near the home of Laurel County Sheriff John Root, who was on hand to assist at the scene. Root reportedly helped the teen exit from the front passenger’s side once he was responsive to persons on the scene following the accident. He was then taken to Saint Joseph-London by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
Also at the scene was Laurel Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Eddy Sizemore, who is heading the investigation into the accident.
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office does not identify occupants of vehicles who are under the age of 18.
