LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
When law enforcement officers respond to calls, they know their life could well be in danger.
But while en route to one call, two members of the Laurel county Sheriff’s Office became victims in a traffic accident that sent three people for medical treatment of minor injuries.
A press release states Deputy Kirk Mays and Court Security Officer Roy Ball were en route to a complaint around 10:39 Saturday night. While driving along Hal Rogers Parkway near the intersection of Ky. 472, the cruiser Mays was operating was hit by a Toyota Camry driven by 50-year-old Sharlette Mills of Nu Way Trail in London. The press release states Mills’ was eastbound on the parkway when she turned in front of the police cruiser, which was headed west.
The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles, with all persons receiving minor injuries. All three were transported to Saint Joseph-London by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County. All three were treated and released.
Assisting at the accident scene were Deputy Brett Reeves, Sgt. Greg Poynter, members of the London Police Department, London Fire Department and Laurel County EMS.
Chief Deputy Eddy Sizemore is leading the investigation into the accident.
