LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Police are still searching for a man involved in a three-county high speed chase that ended a mile past I-75, Exit 909 in Laurel County Thursday. According to police, the man was initially spotted in Madison County driving recklessly in a Ford F-150 truck, which was reported to be stolen from Ohio.
The suspect is described as a six-foot tall, white male, with little to no hair and a goatee. He is said to be in his mid- to late 30s and was wearing blue jeans at the time of the incident.
Madison County Sheriff’s deputies began chasing the unknown male at 6:15 p.m. Thursday when he passed a deputy at a high rate of speed. According to Deputy Willard Reardon of Madison County, the suspect refused to pull over.
The chase then continued through Rockcastle County and into Laurel County, when back-up from the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 11, Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement (KVE) and the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department arrived. KSP officers set out spike strips at mile marker 49, north of London, to deflate the suspect’s tires, which proved to be successful.
“The stingers did their job, and about a mile south, he deployed and his vehicle wrecked. He ran into the woods,” said Gilbert Acciardo, public affairs officer for the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver then continued on foot and jumped over a 30-foot embankment. KSP Sgt. Starlin Hacker said the Madison County Sheriff’s Office was unable to locate the suspect and they are still conducting a search.
