Army wife pleads guilty to murder plot

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — A woman faces 12 years in prison for plotting to have her husband killed last year.

Amber Hursey, 25, of Hanes Baker Road in Corbin, entered a guilty plea in Laurel Circuit Court on Thursday to the charge of complicity to commit murder. The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office recommended Hursey serve a 12-year prison sentence for her crime. She is scheduled for sentencing on May 29.

Hursey was indicted in January for allegedly offering to pay a man to kill her husband, disabled war veteran James Hursey.

James Hursey said the couple was involved in a messy divorce. Amber Hursey contacted a male friend and asked him to kill her husband. However, the friend was also a friend of James Hursey and told him about his wife’s plan to end his life.

The proposed hitman then met with Amber. That meeting involved explicit plans for the proposed murder, and landed Amber Hursey in jail for conspiracy to commit murder.

Amber Hursey was arrested on Nov. 10,  and was indicted by a Laurel grand jury two months later.
