LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — An employee of Poff Carting Services was accidentally killed late Thursday afternoon when he was apparently attempting to correct a malfunction and was pinned between moving mechanical parts by his truck.

Anthony Shawn Fields, 35, of East Bernstadt, was the operator of the waste collection truck. He received a fatal injury to the torso.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling.

At approximately 4:47 p.m. the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a call of a man found deceased outside of Truitt Bros., three miles north of London on U.S. 25.

After investigating the incident, officers determined that an employee of Truitt Brothers had gone outside to discard some waste into a dumpster and located the trapped victim.

No foul play is suspected and no autopsy will be performed.

Trooper Brandon Creekmore is continuing the investigation. Assisting at the scene were officers from KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, East Bernstadt Volunteer Fire Department, London-Laurel County Rescue Squad, Department of Emergency Management, the Laurel County Coroner’s Office, and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.

Funeral services for Fields will be held today, Monday, Jan. 25 at Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Ed Wayne Gibson officiating.

He is survived by his parents, Buster and Jane Fields of East Bernstadt, his wife, Jaymee Brown Fields of London, and two sons, Joseph Brown and Elijah Fields.
