Girl Scouts prepare for door-to-door cookie sales

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — January means a lot of things to different people – resolutions, new starts, cold weather, taxes – but really only guarantees a few. A January staple that rarely comes to mind but is always appreciated is the annual Girl Scout cookie sale.

London Girl Scout troops began selling cookies on January 1. All flavors – thin mints, samoas, peanut butter patties, shortbread, peanut butter sandwiches, lemonades, Savannah smiles, thanks-a-lots, ducle de leche, chocolate chip shortbreads and Thank U Berry Munches – will be available until March 15.

This year, Girl Scouts in London will begin having direct sales, meaning you won’t have to wait for cookie orders. Scouts will have cookies on hand to sell rather than taking orders, though both methods are still available.

“We’re very excited about direct sales this year,” said Teri Johnson, membership specialist at the London Service Center. “You won’t have to wait as long for your cookies.”

While favorites in Laurel County have always been Samoas – also known as Caramel deLites – or peanut butter patties, Girl Scouts will introduce Cranberry Citrus Crisps this year, a decadent breakfast cookie that will go great with coffee.

Troops have already started going door-to-door to rake in sales. If you haven’t been visited yet, stop by the Girl Scouts’ office at 63 Waco Drive in London.

Proceeds from Girl Scouts cookie sales go towards funding their bakery, troops, and organization activities. Cookies can also be donated through the organization’s “Cookie Share” program which benefits the military, local food banks, and local domestic violence shelters.

For more information on the Girl Scouts annual cookie sale or the organization in general, contact Terri Johnson at (606) 878-8535.
