LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — A London man was indicted for the stabbing death of his girlfriend last month.

Sean D. Messer, 34, is charged with murder, fleeing or evading police, and being a first-degree persistent felony offender stemming from the Oct. 22 death of his girlfriend, 25-year-old Pamela Bobbitt. Bobbitt was stabbed in the back, chest, wrist and jaw multiple times. She was transported to Saint Joseph London, where she was pronounced dead.

Messer fled the scene of the murder and was found and arrested a few hours later when he tried to take Bobbitt’s car from a car dealership across the street from their apartment. The car, according to Bobbitt’s father, was at the dealership for some repair work.

The persistent felony offender charge stems from Messer’s past legal history that includes four prior felony convictions, all of which occurred in Whitley County. The most recent is a 2004 sentence of seven years for trafficking a controlled substance. That sentence ran after a two-year sentence for theft by failure to make required disposition in 2005. In 2002, Messer was charged with first-degree bailjumping and was given a four-year sentence on that charge in 2004. A 2001 charge of first-degree wanton endangerment against a police officer was settled in 2005, which was settled in 2005 and was to run at the same time as the trafficking sentence.

He also has an extensive legal history in Knox County, including an indictment for receiving stolen property in September.

Messer and Bobbitt resided in Plantation Apartments on South Laurel Road. The two reportedly were arguing after Bobbitt rode with her sister, who lived in the same apartment complex, to McDonald’s to get something to eat.

The uneaten sandwich and fries were scattered--uneaten--on the lawn outside the apartment, and blood smears were apparent on the door to the home the couple shared. Bobbitt’s father, David Honeycutt, said witnesses--including Bobbitt’s sister--heard her screaming and ran to the apartment to help her. Bobbitt’s two younger children, the youngest of which was fathered by Messer, also came running to the scene from their home with Bobbitt’s sister.

Honeycutt said a custodian who lived two doors down from Bobbitt also came running to help and that an enraged Messer attempted to stab the custodian as well as Bobbitt’s sister.
