LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
If you want to change your holiday decorations, you can find a variety at Come-Unity Cooperative Care’s Christmas store at yard sale prices.
“I have a Santa table, a snowman table, nativity table, lights, garland — anything you can think of to decorate for Christmas,” CCC Director Linda Gilreath said.
The store is open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Credit cards are accepted.
Diane Smith and her daughter, Claudia, visit the Christmas Store every Friday to see what is new.
Georgia Maxey said the Christmas store was beautiful and organized.
“The ornaments are beautiful and the snowman would look good under a tree,” Maxey said. “I come here once or twice a week. It’s therapy; I always feel welcome.”
Teddy and Sharon Mink of Livingston visit CCC three or four times a week, mainly to socialize.
“We know everyone here,” Teddy Mink said. “I entertain and my wife prowls through everything.”
“Anybody can shop here (in the Christmas Store or CCC clothing store); you don’t have to be low income,” Gilreath explained.
“Friday is bag day and anyone can fill up a grocery bag full of clothing for $2,” she said.
The Smiths said they come almost every Friday to buy a grab bag or two.
“My kids love these clothes,” Claudia Smith said.
The store was first opened in 2008 when Gilreath took over as director. She receives donated Christmas decorations and saves them all year long so that they can be sold at the store to make money for the charitable organization.
