Local pageant girl cast in indie film

‘Vanished’ tells story of child abduction

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Destiny Christian, 5-year-old daughter of Desmond and Lisa Christian of London, has recently been cast in an upcoming feature film “Vanished.”  It is produced and directed by Candy Beard of Dreams Come True Films LLC in Terre Haute, Ind.  “Vanished” is a movie about a 9-year-old girl who is abducted by a stranger in broad daylight.  It focuses on the family’s anguish and distress during the aftermath of their daughter’s abduction.

Destiny will be cast as a girl named Anna, but will not be the lead role of the girl being abducted.

“This is a film that needs to be seen. Too many children are abducted every day. A film like ours will make parents stop and think and hopefully teach their children all about ‘stranger danger’ to prevent another child from being abducted,” said producer Candy Beard.

According to the Center for Missing and Exploited Children, more than 58,000 children have been reported as victims of non-family member abductions.

“I feel like participating in this film is going to be really good. People need to be aware and help with this problem,” said Destiny’s mother, Lisa.

The film “Vanished” is an Indie film, which means it is a feature film produced by an independent film maker. They are usually screened at international, national or local film festivals and offer a limited release.  Filming is expected to begin in August of this year and be completed around February 2014.

Destiny’s family met a talent agency manager while at Myrtle Beach who suggested she look for casting calls on Facebook.  After doing so and applying for three different parts, she was contacted by Beard at Dreams Come True Films and cast as part of the film. That was within three days of answering the casting call.

This has not been the only fame Destiny has experienced. She was a featured contestant on TLC’s Toddlers and Tiaras Season 6 in August 2012.  Film crews followed Destiny as she participated in the “Beautiful Me: 50’s Pageant” in Gatlinburg, Tenn. and won personality supreme.

“Pageants have made Destiny the person she is right now,” Lisa said. “She has this personality that’s as big as anything.”

Destiny dreams to one day compete in the Miss America Pageant.  She has been competing in pageants since she was 7 months old and has won Overall Little Miss Southern Madison, personality supreme in Maysville and Morehead, and novice supreme at the Kentucky Festival State Pageant.
