LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

Whether alcohol was a precipitator in a domestic dispute involving a gun is not certain, but a Laurel man was arrested for being under the influence and threatening to shoot people.

Matthew Begley, 37, of 222 Charles Johnson Road in London, was released from the Laurel County Detention Center after his hearing in Laurel District Court on Monday on charges of fourth-degree assault, domestic violence with no visible injury and alcohol intoxication in a public  place.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies Daniel Grigsby and Robbie Grimes arrested Begley after going to his residence, eight miles north of London, around 10:15 p.m. Thursday night. People at the residence said Begley had gotten a gun and was threatening to shoot “everyone.” The deputies found Begley inside the residence with a gun beside him.

The investigation revealed Begley had made the threats to shoot people while three children were present. He was also determined to be under the influence of alcohol.
