LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
A misleading GPS may have been the culprit that sent a 2007 Freightliner tractor trailer onto a narrow city street, where the trailer overturned and closed the street for several hours early Monday morning.
Residents in the area were without power following the collision that sent the tractor trailer, driven by 58-year-old Marvin Levine of Rockhill, N.Y., onto Allf Lane, where the tractor trailer got caught in power lines at the intersection of Allf Lane and Owens Street and hit a large tree around 3 a.m. The collision caused the trailer to separate from the truck, dumping over 31,000 pounds of merchandise onto the road, just off Whitley Street.
Both roadways were closed for several hours while the debris was picked up and electric crews worked to repair the lines and restore power to the residents affected.
The accident was investigated by Kentucky State Police Vehicle Enforcement Officer Rob Mitchell. Assisting at the scene were members of the KSP-Vehicle Enforcement, London Police Department, and Kentucky Utilities.
