Click It or Ticket nets 6,000 citations

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — The four law enforcement agencies centered in Laurel County netted more than 6,000 citations during the recent “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

The two-week campaign that began on May 21 and ran through June 3 involved road patrols, traffic safety checkpoints, and other traffic checks to ensure that motorists traveling in Laurel County were driving safely and following the state laws.

The Kentucky State Police Post 11 — which covers seven counties that include Laurel, Whitley, Rockcastle, and McCreary — reported issuing 4,415 citations over the two-week time frame. The breakdown for the London Post includes:

• 70 DUIs

• 1,306 speeding

• 1,153 seat belt violations

• 58 child restraints

•10 felony arrests

• 2 warrant services

• 97 fugitives apprehended

• 77 suspended licenses

• 303 no insurance

• 13 reckless driving

• 17 drug-related arrests

• 1,333 other violations

London Police Department reported 230 hours dedicated to the Click It or Ticket campaign, with 52 hours for conducting traffic checkpoints. Their department reported:

• 3 DUI arrests

• 58 seat belt violations

• 2 child restraint citations

• 4 felony arrests

• 26 fugitives apprehended

• 7 suspended licenses

• 12 no insurance citations

• 52 speeding citations

• 3 reckless driving

• 8 drug-related arrests

• 159 other traffic violations that include improper passing, disregarding a stop sign, improper start from parked position, following too closely, failure to dim headlights, careless driving, no tail lamps, excessive window tint, and obstructed vision and/or windshield.

The Kentucky Commercial Vehicle Enforcement unit reported 883 total citations given during the two-week period. They reported:

• 248 seat belt violations

• 20 no insurance

• 5 DUIs

• 12 suspended license

• 5 child restraint citations

• 593 other citations

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office reported  more than 500 citations issued during the Click It or Ticket campaign and worked more than 191 hours. Sheriff’s personnel reported the following citations and arrests:

• 4 DUIs

• 87 seat belt violations

• 5 child restraint citations

• 12 fugitives captured

• 16 suspended licenses

• 41 no insurance

• 20 speeding violations

• 3 reckless driving

• 2 drug-related arrests

• 398 other violations.

The next campaign will begin in mid-August, focusing on intoxicated drivers with the theme of “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”
