Church offers ‘Mother’s Morning Out’

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Moms need some “me” time sometimes.

That was the premise of “Mother’s Morning Out,” a service of the First Baptist Church of London. The program is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Mother’s Morning Out was inspired to give stay at home mothers time to run errands, get their hair fixed or just plain have time to themselves, all while knowing their child is in a safe, fun and Christian environment.

“And it’s not always moms,” said Kim Smith, director of children’s ministry at London First Baptist.  “It’s any caregiver, grandmothers or aunts, too.”

The program is for children ages 1 through 5 years old.

Mother’s Morning Out is not a preschool and does not follow a set learning curriculum. Children explore music and crafts and also have playtime in the church gymnasium.  Snacks are provided.

“It’s great for the children to get in a regular routine as well as getting used to being around other kids,” Smith said.

While a fee is required for children to participate, the church considers the program more of a service than a money-maker.

“We don’t make any money off of this,” Smith said.  “We cover our expenses, pay our workers and pay for snacks.”

The fee is $15 a day for members of the church and $18 a day for non-members.  Fees must be paid by the month.

“Drop-ins” are not accepted.

Parents can register for the program twice a year.  The next enrollment period opens in January.
