LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Traffic was backed up along U.S. 25 between London and Corbin on Thursday after two vehicles collided head-on around 11:30 a.m.
Kentucky State Police Trooper John Pratt investigated the accident, eight miles south of London, in which 20-year-old Ladonna Eaton of McKee and her passenger, 57-year-old Linda Caudill of Hudson, Fla., were airlifted from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington for their injuries.
The press release from the KSP Post 11 states 32-year-old Betty Epperson of Flat Lick was traveling south on U.S. 25 and began passing two other southbound vehicles. Epperson’s red 2011 Chevrolet Cruze hit Eaton’s 2010 gray Pontiac G6, head-on.
Epperson was taken to Saint Joseph London for treatment of injuries while motorists traveling along U.S. 25 were blocked in traffic while Eaton and Caudill were treated and then flown from the scene.
No drugs or alcohol usage is suspected in the accident, with the investigation being continued by Trooper Pratt.
The accident occurred near Jerry’s Furniture in the Lily community along U.S. 25 — an area that is prone to numerous traffic accidents including several fatalities. A study of the roadway is currently underway by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for possible widening of the roadway to alleviate accidents in the area.
