LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Laurel County Sheriff John Root said Detective Sgt. Tommy Johnston is investigating an apparent home burglary which occurred on Old Whitley Road about seven miles south of London on Thursday at 12:26 p.m.
Dudley Farmer, 25, of McWhorter Road, London, Leslie Hicks, 31, of Ky. 122, McDowell, and Jimmy Farmer, 31, of Corbin were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and theft by unlawful taking. Jimmy Farmer was treated and released with a gunshot wound to the upper chest at Saint-Joseph London.
The trio apparently entered the home where the owner, Bobby Lee and his infant child were asleep. Lee was awakened by Jimmy Farmer walking around in his bedroom. Shots were fired by Lee, striking Jimmy Farmer at least once in the upper chest.
When Deputy John Inman arrived at the scene, the trio were taken into custody near the residence — two men and one female near Farmer’s black Ford Explorer, where the homeowner held them hostage at gun point until law enforcement arrived.
Lee said this was not the first time his home had been broken into. He was burglarized before at a different home and bought a gun for protection.
“I was just prepared,” he said.
“They were trying to pay and bribe me to get out of it,” he added.
All three were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
Assisting at the scene were Sheriff John Root, Chief Deputy Eddy Sizemore, Detective Daryl Zanet, Detective Charlie Loomis , Detective Brad Mitchell, Detective Jason Back, Lt. Rodney Van Zant, Deputy James Sizemore, Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
