East Bernstadt Independent School Board approved a $3M working budget at its September 12 meeting.

“It’s almost $3 million and about the same as last year,” Superintendent Vicki Jones said.

The board also approved a tax rate for real estate and tangible property at .41 cents per $100 of accessed value.

The board examined their TELL Kentucky Survey reports at the meeting.

“It covers eight different standards,” Jones said. “It helps us make school improvement plans. In most areas, we’ve improved from 2011 until now. There are still areas we need to work on. It compares us to what we did in 2011 and then it compares us with the state.” (The results of the survey can be viewed on the Kentucky Department of Education website.)

The board also approved the second reading of the athletic policy and approved a coach and his salary.

“The Laurel County Elementary Basketball League is going to allow our students to participate in their fourth- and fifth-grade league,” Jones said.

The board approved a new special education position and a part-time custodian position. Jones said a custodian was needed because the new elementary school has more square footage than the old one.

The next meeting will be October 10 in the library.
