Car rolls into Laurel Lake

Emergency rescue workers were sent to an undisclosed area of Laurel Lake Tuesday where a vehicle had rolled into the depths of the lake.

According to the sheriff’s report, the car rolled from a sloped parking lot, past a boat ramp, and into the lake. No one was in the vehicle at the time.

Katina M. Grubb of Rockholds, Ky., told Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies Robbie Grimes, Tyler Morris and Larry Parrott she had parked her 2007 Suzuki Forenza in the parking lot and she and all her passengers had gotten out of the vehicle.

But, according to Grubb, the vehicle started rolling down the sloped parking lot, despite attempts by Grubb and her passengers to stop it. The car then rolled into the river and was completely submerged in the water.

Rescue Squad members and a local wrecker service went to the scene, where divers were able to hook cables to the vehicle and pull it from the water.

However, the retrieval of the car from the lake revealed the car was in neutral gear when it was retrieved from the water.

An insurance report was filed by deputies and no charges are pending against the car owner at this time.

Also assisting at the scene was Abby Hale with the Laurel County Department of Public Safety.
