LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Just a day after she was flown to a Lexington hospital for injuries in a two-car crash, a London woman was released from the hospital.
Megan Patterson, 26, of O Johnson Road in London, was trapped inside her 2000 Pontiac Grand Am following an early Sunday morning accident on Ky. 312.
The driver of the other car involved in the accident — a 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Darrell Sizemore, 59, of Cornett Road in London — was headed eastbound on Ky. 312, 11 miles south of London at 1 a.m. Sizemore reportedly lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road and into a ditch. The truck then came back out of the ditchline and back onto the road, still out of control, crossed the centerline and struck Patterson’s vehicle head-on.
The impact sent Patterson’s Grand Am off the roadway, landing onto its top trapping her inside. Patterson was removed from the vehicle, taken to a landing zone where a helicopter awaited, and was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Sizemore was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center for charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence, third offense with aggravated circumstances, third offense,
Assisting at the scene were Deputies Mikey Ashurst, London-Laurel County Rescue Squad, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, Keavy Volunteer Fire Dept. and Kentucky State Police.
