Contest abound at 23rd annual WCF

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — From youth to adults, there's a little something for everyone to compete in during the World Chicken Festival.

Check out some of this year's egg-citing contests:

Clucking, Crowing & Strutting

Noon Saturday

Sanders Court Stage

Valley National Bank — $100 prize



Survival Egg Drop Contest

Friday 10 a.m. is drop time. Eggs must be entered between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. Event will take place in front of CVNB on Main Street.

Sponsored by Cumberland Valley National Bank and United Way. Area students can test their skills and try to be the successful one at dropping an egg without breaking it!  $1,000 in prizes. 



Hot Wings Eating Contest

The Beef O’Brady’s Hot Wing Eating Contest will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sander’s Court Stage. Pre-registration is required and will start at 1 p.m.

“Chick-O-Lympics”

Friday, 6 p.m. at London-Laurel County Rescue Squad.

Sponsored by Sentinel-Echo and Laurel County Kiwanis. For children ages 4-7.

Compete for prizes in four events: Egg Hunt, Spoon Race, Egg Toss, and Chicken Scratch for money — In 600 pounds of flour! Win a girls and boys bicycle.

· Watermelon/Pumpkin seed spitting (for distance and accuracy)

· Spam eating (time trials and consumption)

·  Toilet Lid Horseshoes

· Redneck Joke Competition (audience participation)

· Armpit Serenade (song recognition)

·  Burping Contest (length of burp and song content)

· Corn Shucking Contest (timed event)

Register on site. No Entry Fee.

“Run For The Roost”

The Pepsi/Gatorade 5K Run/Walk

Saturday, Sept. 25, at London Elementary School

Various Sponsors. Non-cash prizes.

Family fun run (1 mile) and

5,000 meters 7 to 8:45 a.m. Race Day Registration: Fee $15.  

Awards to overall top 3 males  and females, and to the top 3 finishers in each age group. 



Double Corn Hole Tourney

Saturday, 11 a.m.

Laurel County Fairgrounds

Sign-ups will begin at 11 a.m., tournament will start at noon.

$20 entry fee per team. First place, $300; second place, $150; third place, $75.

Fundraiser for Bombers Coach pitch baseball traveling team.



Horizon Volleyball Tournament

Horizon Volleyball Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday. Pool play will begin Friday evening and continue Saturday morning.

Following pool play, teams will be seeded and tournament play will take place Saturday afternoon and evening.

The games will be played at Mill Street Park just west of the festival area.

Teams will consist of six players, both men and women. Each team must have two women on the court at all times. USA volleyball rules apply.

The entry fee is $60 for all divisions. Team Captains will meet Friday, Sept. 23.
