LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
A London man, who was drunk Sunday morning, struck a police cruiser in a road block at the intersection of Main and Fifth streets.
London Police Sgt. Matthew Moore was almost struck by his cruiser when the impact pushed it toward him around 10:45 a.m.
Martin Garland, 49, of Falls City Road was arrested and charged with DUI, second-degree wanton endangerment, and third-degree criminal mischief, and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
Sgt. Moore was putting on his safety vest behind his car in order to direct traffic at the intersection because of a power outage that affected the downtown area when Garland struck his cruiser.
Garland, who was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram 4x4 pickup, drove over the curb and onto the sidewalk, striking Moore’s cruiser and pushing it toward the officer.
No one was injured.
Assisting at the scene were Offers Ryan Jackson and Jeremy Shell. The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
