LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
A woman who lives on south U.S. 25 made five quilts to give to victims of the March 2 tornado that hit the northern part of Laurel County.
Eva Sharp made tack quilts for Christine Goff, Elizabeth Bentley, Clint Pitman who lost his mother and father, and Eric Allen, who also lost his mother and father.
“I didn’t have the funds to go ahead and give them money, so I thought that was something they can always use,” Sharp said. “Most of them were probably needing it. A friend of mine, when he passed away, his daughter gave me a bunch of flat sheets. Another friend of mine gave me a roll of blue material. I used blankets for the padding. I enjoy doing stuff like that.”
Sharp has a friend, Evelyn Daugherty, who lives on Bentley Road where the tornado hit hard.
“I worked with Evelyn here at Lowe’s (Corbin). I knew she would know who needed the quilts,” Sharp said. “I left one for Mary Parker and Evelyn gave out the rest and took pictures.”
“My theory is that if you do something for someone, those people may not do something for you, but someone else will do a good deed,” she added. “I told my husband I was going to make the quilts. He usually says something like, ‘What do you want to do that for?’ This time he didn’t say anything so he must have agreed, but even if he didn’t, I would have made them anyway.”
