Time for the World Chicken Festival

23 Years of Cackling and Crowing

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Colonel Harland Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, is one of the most highly recognized figures in the world.

Laurel County, Kentucky, located in the heart of the beautiful Daniel Boone National Forest, is proud to be the home of the Colonel’s first and original restaurant established in the 1940’s. Lee Cummings, co-founder of Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken, also began his career in 1952 with his uncle, Colonel Sanders, in Laurel County.

The Annual World Chicken Festival is a tribute to this heritage. We invite you to our international celebration the last full weekend of every September, in beautiful downtown London. All the “egg-citement” and entertainment for four fun filled day makes this one of Kentucky’s largest festivals.

OFFICIAL FESTIVAL HOURS ARE:

Thursday —  5 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Friday —  10 a.m. until 12 a.m. (Midnight)

Saturday —  10 a.m. until 12 a.m.  (Midnight)

Sunday —  1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

London and Laurel County have been a crossroads for travelers ever since Daniel Boone led a band of brave pioneers through the Cumberland Gap into Kentucky. The early settlers were forced to battle Indians and dark forests, but today’s travelers find it much easier to reach Laurel County. Located at the intersection of I-75, the Hal Rogers and Cumberland Parkways, and U.S. 25, London is still a “Traveler’s Crossroads.”

New this year to the 23rd Annual World Chicken Festival is “Light Up The Night In London’” an exciting new event, presented by Wildcat Harley-Davidson!

On Friday, Sept. 28 around 10 p.m. the night skies will light up over downtown London and the World Chicken Festival as over 5,000 firework shells burst into the night with the most elaborate firework show London has ever seen. This 20 minute show will be choreographed to music and will be broadcasted on Oldies 96.7 and relayed to all the stages and the public address system throughout the World Chicken Festival area in downtown London.
