Smoot arrested on child pornography charges

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — The London Police Department arrested a man on Friday, April 19 in conjunction with the Kenton County Police Department, as a search warrant and arrest warrant were executed at a Wildwood Avenue home.

Thomas J. Smoot, 46, of 39 Wildwood Avenue in Lonodn was taken into custody without incident for crimes in relation to an ongoing investigation involving nography.  For approximately six months the Kenton County Police Department investigated Smoot through a sting operation.  Smoot was suspected of child pornography activities, so through the operation, Smoot eventually shared photos and video content through the Internet that led to his arrest, according to London Police Sgt. Joe Smith.

Smoot was charged with the first offense of use of an electronic system to procure a minor to engage in sexual activities, possession of matter portraying sexual performance by a minor and distribution of matter portraying sexual performance by a minor.
