Walker served with EPO

Police Chief suspended with pay pending hearing

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — London Police Chief Stewart Walker has faced heavy scrutiny in the past 48 hours after an emergency protective order (EPO) was filed against him in Madison County on Monday.

The EPO was  sworn in on Friday morning to a Berea police officer. A family court hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (today). If passed, Walker will be ordered to have no contact with the complainant and stay at least 500 feet away from addresses in Berea, Richmond and Jellico, Tenn.

According to the filed EPO, Walker has allegedly been involved in behavior described as “stalking” and “terrorizing” for the past year with a woman in Madison County.

“Stewart has been physically violent with me in the past and I am afraid of him and what he might do next,” the woman’s statement reads.  The complaint went on to describe how Walker was allegedly seen in her neighborhood “at all hours of the day and night” by witnesses, even to the extent that Kentucky State Troopers had “found him crouched down in [the] driveway.”

The EPO goes on to list how the woman sought the help of Mayor Troy Rudder. Rudder confirmed that he met with the complainant twice. During an interview Tuesday morning, the mayor claimed he was investigating the woman’s allegations.

“(She) had not filed any official or written complaint,” Mayor Rudder said. “After the meeting with (her), we were in the process of doing some sort of investigation to determine what really happened. The complainant called and said (she) wanted to speak to the Mayor.”

The protective order goes on to mention how Chief Walker continued to stalk the complainant as recent as Thursday, April 17 – the date of which the EPO was sworn.

London Police Chief Stewart Walker has been suspended with pay until an “undetermined” time.
