Meth lab found on Haley Ridge Road

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — A Laurel man faces a preliminary hearing on Tuesday for making meth and possessing guns when he has prior felony offenses.

Tony E. Chancy, 49, of Haley Ridge Road in London is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, first offense; possession of firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and fourth-degree controlled endangerment of a child. Chancy was arrested by Laurel Sheriff’s officials around 1:50 p.m. Thursday after receiving a complaint of a possible meth lab at Chancy’s residence on Haley Ridge Road.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found an active meth lab as well as a 9 mm handgun and a .22 rifle. A 12-year-old child resides at the residence but was not home at the time the arrest was made.

Chancy was arraigned in Laurel District Court on Friday morning and scheduled for the preliminary hearing. His bond was set at $25,000 cash. At press time Friday, Chancy’s bond had not been posted and he remained incarcerated.

The Cabinet for Families and Children were notified about the residence of a child in the home but Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy and Public Affairs Officer Gilbert Acciardo said he did not know what steps had been taken regarding the child. Acciardo said Chancy had prior felony convictions, which netted the two charges of possessing the pistol and the rifle, although Chancy has no prior jail stays in the Laurel Detention Center.

Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Jason Back is continuing the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by Captain Rodney Van Zant, Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter, Deputy James Sizemore, Detective Billy Madden, and Bailiff Brandon Broughton.
