FEMA halts Senture contract

Over 600 jobs lost

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Low need for FEMA disaster assistance has stopped 600 anticipated jobs in the London area.

The contract with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) was to provide call center support for victims of Superstorm Sandy. London-based Senture had secured the contract for a call center and was taking applications for those interested in the temporary positions.

However, FEMA contacted Senture officials over the weekend, stating they had issued a Stop Work Order on the contract. The order was allegedly issued because “a lower than anticipated need for disaster assistance.”

The expected 600 jobs were to be filled at Senture’s London and Monticello facilities.

“Although we are very disappointed with this news, Senture expects to win other work shortly after the New Year,” said Senture President and CEO Chris Deaton. “All employment applications will be retained and used to fill those vacancies. It is expected the number of new hires will be  more than 370 and all of these jobs will be in support of a five-year contract. Again, although we are very disappointed by the loss of the FEMA jobs, we are excited about our new five-year contract.”

Senture officials report avid interest for the advertised FEMA jobs.

Vicki Blair, Senture’s human resource manager, said, “I was overwhelmed by the great turnout for these positions. Well over 1,000 people applied in just four days. Senture is committed to winning new long-term contracts so we can make jobs available to people in the London and Monticello areas."

Senture is located in the Laurel County Industrial Park No. 4, off west Ky. 80 off Vaughn Ridge Road. It is a full-service solutions provider with operations headquartered in London. Jobs include 24/7/365 inbound and outbound contract center support and help desk to clients in the federal, state, and commercial sectors. Senture has offices in Kentucky and Florida.
