LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
The exit of Tom Jensen from the Senate race has opened a new opportunity for local Democrats to select a candidate for the November election.
On Thursday night, the Republican Party from the 21st District chose Albert Robinson as their nominee to succeed Jensen in Frankfort.
The Democrats will have their opportunity on Tuesday night, when they will gather their executive committee members for the 21st Senatorial district to discuss if they wish to nominate an opponent for Robinson.
Roy Sizemore, chair of the Laurel County Democratic Party, confirmed Amie Hacker of London, “has expressed an interest” in challenging Robinson for the seat in Frankfort.
Hacker and her husband, Tracy, have rental property and operate a manufactured homes business in London. She has no prior political background. However, she did say if chosen as the party nominee, she would work for all people in the 21st district.
“I have not made a final decision at this point,” Hacker said. “I agree it will be an uphill battle but I feel like this will be an opportunity where I will be able to do things for and help the people of the district.”
Hacker said she was not aware of anyone else interested in seeking the Democratic nomination at this time.
